In a bid to boost agricultural productivity in the North-East, The Federal Government said it would distribute free liquid fertilizers to Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa State for this year’s farming season.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Hajia Sa’adiyya Faruk, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja, said that the Federal Executive Council, FEC, had given approval to that effect.
She explained that the liquid organic fertiliser, which is about 2000 litres in quantity, was a gesture under the Federal Government’s Emergency Agriculture Intervention for states affected by conflicts, insurgency, and the 2018 flood disaster.
The contract, worth about one billion Naira, would be delivered in good time to allow farmers yield maximum benefit from the gesture.
Also approved was the contract for the procurement of four transformers to replace the existing ones supporting the National grid, which have been in use for the past 35 years, to improve the quality of power supply.
Briefing newsmen, the Minister, Alhaji Saleh Mamman, said FEC had also approved contract for the production and delivery of electricity meters to the three meter-test stations in Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna.
