Following the digitalisation of Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS), The chairman of the agency has organized a two day capacity building workshop to sensitize and equip the staff with the fundamentals of computerized land and survey services of the state government.
In his opening address, the chairman of BOGIS, Alhaji Bashir Shettima, explained that due to the significance of revenue generation to the state, the workshop would train participants on computer applications and processes involved in land use administration and development levey payments among others.
Represented by the BOGIS Board Member, Alhaji Wanna Dukes, emphasized that the workshop was aimed at exposing the staff to the existing challenges that the organization is facing with the new innovations in land use and administration, while pledging to continue to organize such workshop in future periodically to improve in the knowledge and performance of the staff
In his remarks, The Executive Secretary of BOGIS, Engineer Adam Bababe, said the workshop is aimed at exposing the staff to the loopholes in land administration, revenue generation and accountability with a view to establish and consolidate on proper, effective and formidable land use, administration as well as revenue generation of the state.
Engr. Bababe, however, appealed to the participants to be attentive and make proper use of the lessons learnt at the workshop towards improving the BOGIS services across the state.
He called on all the staff and other stakeholders not to hesitate to contribute effectively and positively at the workshop and development of BOGIS by supporting government efforts and policies on land use and administration, especially in the state’s capital Maiduguri which has metamorphosed from metropolitan to cosmopolitan .
Engr. Bababe also urged land owners to register their lands and documents with BOGIS in time to avoid embarrassment, while commending the efforts of the staff so far in the discharge of their duties since the establishment of BOGIS.
Resource persons at the workshop presented papers on ‘The impact of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) on government activities’, by Mohammed Hassan, a former Director Consult, Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, ‘GIS and land matters for our lives’,
by Dr. Mohammed Jime of Geography Department, University of Maiduguri and a guest speaker who spoke on ‘Work ethics and civil service’, while Engr. Bababe also presented a paper on ‘Computer as a tool for the activities of BOGIS’.
In his vote of thanks, the Executive Secretary thanked the organizers for such an event, the State’s Governor for his support to BOGIS and all the stakeholders as well as the staff for their participation
Highlights of the events include group photographs and presentation of certificates to participants by the Executive Secretary .
