The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the Recording Academy, is reserved for performers who, during their lifetimes, made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.
Born in 1938, Fela Anikulapo Kuti was not only a musical innovator but also a fearless social critic whose work blended music, politics and activism. His Afrobeat sound—rooted in jazz, funk and traditional African rhythms—has influenced generations of artists worldwide and continues to shape contemporary music.
