ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –

Kidnapping, banditry, rape and other violent crimes have increased in Bauchi State, security agencies in the State have lamented.

Commissioner of Police, Lawan Jimeta and Director of Department of State Services, Umar Yeldu said this at a Town Hall meeting on security issues tagged: Engaging the Youth and Communities held at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Complex, Bauchi on Monday.

CP Lawan Jimeta, in a keynote address, said that borders of the state have become porous vowing that the Police and other sister agencies are not resting on their oars just to ensure that the people in the state sleep with their eyes closed.

He said that Police Command has been working with all segments of the society pointing out that recently, the Command met with some youth groups to seek out for ways of promoting peace and tackling incidents of rape, armed robbery and other violent crimes in the state.

Jimeta said: “Currently, we have observed incidents the increase in the incidences of kidnappings especially on our borders with the Falgore forest.

“His Excellency has given us a marching order and very soon, inshallah, it will be a thing of the past.”

He commended the governor for his support to all the Security Agencies in the state promising to redouble their efforts to bring safety and security to the entire state.

Also speaking, the Director of the Department of Security Services, Umar Abdullahi, also acknowledged that the state is experiencing an increase in violent crimes.

He assured that the Service and other security outfits in the state will continue to do their best in ensuring the peace and security of the people of the state.

He said: “You are aware that Bauchi State is recording an increase in the incidents of kidnappings, banditry, rape, cattle rustling and many other crimes.

“I want to appreciate our royal fathers, religious leaders and other stakeholders for the roles they are playing for ensuring that security is maintained in the state who are always interested in finding out what the Service has done after any security incident in the state.

“We appeal to all citizens of the state to collaborate with all the security agencies in the state by giving them relevant information to tackle crimes in the society.”
